VI Festuge
2005 - The Splendour of the Ages
The VI Festive Week was held in 2005 between 27th August - 4th
September 2005.
The theme was The Splendour of the Ages.
Welcome to Holstebro Festive Week, which offers everything from
art and culture to funny little experiences. Created with and by
the citisens of Holstebro. A week where the town itself creates
magic.
After a little warmup - such as Hæsblæsende
Høstballer (Harvest Festival) in Idom and at
Nørrelandsskolen, Lars Lilholt
concert in Anlægget and BørnekulturNat (Children's Cultural Night)
- the whole thing takes off on Saturday 27 August at,
the Town Hall Squarein Holstebro, where the opening
is marked by a sumptuous harvest festival, when the
clock strikes 12.00. Apart from chairs and benches
to rest on during the mayor's speech, you will also find a
gigantic coffee table to hold on to
during the tractor dance and the
shopping trolley dance. The latter
choreographed by the dancer, Theresa
Jarvis, from the Royal Theatre Ballet School. The
ingenious poet, Eske K. Mathiesen,
will also be dropping by, and romance is represented by the two
weddings taking place during the opening. Naturally, you will also
be able to enjoy theatre groups with both Danish and foreign
actors, and everything spirals down at around
14.30.
When the smoke from the Festive Week start gun has settled,
the Town Hall atmosphere will spread out through the town,
which will be filled with performances, exhibitions, music and
happenings
right through till Sunday 4 September
You will find a newly written opera at
Knudsens, where the main character is played by the
brilliant Danish poet, Peter Laugesen, disguised as the American
lyric poet, Ezra Pound. The music to Ezra is
composed by the versatile Odin Teatret composer, Frans
Winther. The entrance is free for all three performances -
be sure to get there in time!
Teatro Tascabile di Bergamo from Italy has
finally landed in Holstebro again and will show their enchanting
outdoor performance on stilts, Valse, a gem of a
performance one should not miss. Teatro Tascabile di
Bergamo will also be present around town to liven up
streets and alleys as well as the town's open spaces.
Together with Teatro Tascabile di Bergamo arrives
a younger generation of incomparable stilt walkers,
Bilicoteatro, also from Italy. They perform with
magnificent, equilibristic acts in both welknown and unexpected
places in town.

The Spanish theatre group, Teatro Atalaya, will
be showing their colourful performance episodes in different places
round Holstebro and will, like the other groups, also be visiting
public areas, where they will entertain anyone passing by.
Iben Nagel Rasmussen from Odin Teatret will be
performing in her latest solo performance, Esters
Bog (Ester's Book), which tells the story of her mother's
destiny. It is a beautiful story about a woman, for whom poetry
played a big part in her marriage with the author Halfdan Rasmussen
and their divorce, and who spent her last days in the obscurity of
senile dementia. It is a personal and moving experience with an
outstanding artist. Tickets are free for all three
performances in Bibliotekssalen (the library hall).
It will be big, imaginative and spectacular! Alle tiders
pragtfulde aldre (the all time splendour of ages) is the
production of the Odin Teatret actor Tage Larsen
and will take place in Sportsrideklubben (the
Riding Sports Club), where some 250 participants
work together. Cervantes, Don Quizote and his esquire Sancho Panza
are all characters throughout this performance, which in addition
also contains: a herd of horses, 3 American cars, some bees, some
flowers, paparazzi photographers, tractors, God, a trampoline, some
dancers, amoeba and a roman chariot, just to lift a small corner of
the curtain that goes three times during the Festive
Week. The experience will enrich you and it won't cost you
a krone!
Ageless is an international course organised by
Odin Teatret. Lead by professional artists from
Puerto Rico, New Zealand, Teatret Om and Odin Teatret, the
participants will work in the weeks up to the Festive Week and they
become an ensemble, which will be here, there and everywhere,
dressed in colourful costumes and amusing masks. They will visit
the maternity ward, schools, nursing homes, the train station, the
fire station and much more. All they need is a door to enter,
before they spread their high spirits and Latin-American
rhythms.
In the cool spaces of Holstebro
Museum you will find Ord og Toner i
Natten, Saturday 3 september. Music and
poetry will mix and both professionals and amateurs will be on the
stage in an inspired and intense atmosphere.

Holstebro Kunstmuseum (Arts Museum) exhibits
works by Inge Lise Westmann. Scala-Holstebro and
Holstebro Film Club will be showing a very
relevant and meaningful film triology by one of the most
interesting Danish directors of late, Per Fly.
Jazzklub 93 Holstebro invites to jazz-brunch. And
last but not least the performance The Wall at
Friluftsscenen in Anlægget, which Musikteatret HolstebroHallen has
produced themselves.
The Grand Finale entitled Den Evige
Alder (The Eternal Age) in Anlægget (the
park). Eugenio Barba, the founder of Odin
Teatret, will without a doubt present a unique experience.
The imagination is set loose at 13.00.
In the day-by-day programme below you can find
