Live Streaming
Odin Teatret Live Streaming was born in 2014 for Odin Teatret's
50th anniversary, during which an event was organised to thank
Odin's Secret People - friends and collaborators who had supported
the theatre throughout its existence. In December 2013, Odin
Teatret sent an invitation to the more than 10.000 people on its
mailing list. About 850 people responded positively, but Odin
Teatret only had place for a maximum of 300 people. So already many
months before the event, Odin Teatret was forced to say that no
more guests could be accepted. To maintain the connection with
those of Odins' friends all over the world who would not be
present, we created an Odin Teatret WebTV channel (ODIN TEATRET
LIVE STREAMING), with the intention of making a live-streaming
recording of "Clear Enigma", the performance done in occasion of
the 50th anniversary to be presented only once on the day of
commemoration.
Odin Teatret Live Streaming made its first experimental test during
the symposium "Theatre as a Laboratory for Community Interaction"
held at Odin Teatret in May 2014.
After expanding OTF's technology and equipment, Chiara Crupi and
Claudio Coloberti gathered a troupe of young university and film
students, to make available online an unrepeatable theatre event
while it was taking place: "Clear Enigma". Despite the artisan
dimensions of the experiment - far from technical perfection and
aware of the impossibility of giving a faithful image of the
performance - numerous virtual spectators followed us both during
and after the event itself. Today, the link counts over 5000 views.
For OTF, this has meant contributing to unite Odin Teatret's
"family" through a channel of communication that overcomes
geographical barriers so that many people could also partly share
the atmosphere of the feast. We have received many enthusiastic and
generous acknowledgements. Encouraged by this response, we continue
to develop this initiative in the same spirit and other live
streaming have followed since.
