RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEXT AND PHYSICAL
ACTIONS
A 2 week workshop led by Tage Larsen (Odin
Teatret)
The workshop deals with a particular physical approach
to text and the text's presentation and is based on a
dynamic, visual and sound preparation of an actor through physical
and vocal training. The training explores and challenges the
actors' physical ability, imagination, and capacity to create and
mould expressions. The actors learn exercises and then begin to
create some of their own. A personal set of actions is linked
together to be repeated in various ways, working on space, rhythm,
volume, resistance, opposition, colours and humour. Improvisations
and compositions are fixed and refined in their physical form and
then confronted with a text. The texts are chosen by the
participants: something they are eager to explore and transmit. The
text will be realised in different ways. Text and action will give
and take from each other.
For 16 participants and 4 observers
Needs: Each participant is required to learn by
heart a text before coming to the workshop.
Language: The workshop will be conducted in
English. Tage Larsen can communicate with the participants in
Italian, Spanish, Danish and French.
TAGE LARSEN started at Odin Teatret in 1971 as
a 'helping hand' and soon was accepted as an actor. He remained
with Odin Teatret until 1987 when he started his own group, Yorick
Teatret. In the ten years away from Odin Teatret, Tage also taught
at the Nordisk Teater Skole in Århus and worked as a freelance
actor with Teater La Balance and Cantabile 2. In 1997 he returned
to Odin Teatret to be part of the performance Mythos. Tage
Larsen worked in the following performances at Odin Teatret: My
Father's House, The Book of Dances, Come! And the Day Will Be Ours,
Anabasis, The Million, Ashes of Brecht, The Gospel according to
Oxyrhincus, Mythos, Ode to Progress, Whispering Winds, Great Cities
under the Moon, Andersen's Dream, Inside the Skeleton of the Whale,
Don Giovanni all'inferno, The Marriage of Medea, The Chronic
Life. He still acts and directs performances outside Odin
Teatret and gives workshops for actors all over the world. He
regularly creates and directs the main local performance during
Holstebro Festuge (Festive Week) and has directed Madame
Bovary with Anna Lica (Denmark); The Starry Messenger
with Donald Kitt (Canada); Lady Swettenham with Sabera
Shaik of Masakini Theatre Company (Malaysia); Sancho Panza e
